Angela Lansbury, a scene-stealing British actress who rose to prominence in the Broadway

musicals "Ma'am" and "Gypsy" and as crime novelist Jessica

Fletcher in the long-running television series "Murder, She Wrote" Solved, died. , She was 96 years old.

Lansbury died Tuesday at her Los Angeles home, 

according to a statement from her three children. He died five days before his 97th birthday.

Lansbury won five Tony Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award for her performance 

on Broadway. She earned Academy Award nominations for supporting 

actress for two of her first three films, "Gaslight" (1945) and "The Picture of Dorian Grey"
