Guangdong, China – October 24, 2022: XPENG subsidiary XPENG AEROHT unveiled the latest version of the world’s first all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) flying car at the XPENG 1024 Tech Day.
Designed for both aerial flight and road driving, the flying vehicle conveniently features a sleek folding rotor system for seamless interaction between driving and flying.
It is equipped with a new flight control system equipped with fault-tolerant control functions and a dual-engine backup system to ensure safety.
Adapted from last year’s horizontal twin-rotor structure to a new multi-rotor distributed configuration, overall system design complexity has also been reduced to improve flight safety and reliability.
The new flying car test vehicle has successfully completed its maiden flight, as well as several single-engine failure tests.
In driving mode, it is at par with any conventional car in terms of functionality and measurements. In flight mode, the flying car is operated using the steering wheel and the right gear stick as controls to go forward and backward, turn, climb, hover, and land.
Subject to laws and regulations for low-altitude airspace, it can take off vertically and fly over traffic congestion, obstacles, and rivers to meet a new set of short-range mobility requirements.
